    Looks like a great setup for mounted troops in a vehicle. But if you’re an old school ground pounder leg. I think all that weight out front would cause back pain and make it hard for getting low in the prone position. And forget low crawling

    It should go without saying that the way plate carriers and cheat rigs carry the weight of gear, it can make one a bit top heavy. Thus, getting out and training to get used to wearing it, including moving up and down the landscaping is just as important as acquiring and assembling.

    I aint wearing ANYTHING that holds my chest 4" off of the ground when I"m prone! eff that noise. You dont want to be and dont have to be out and about in daylight if shtf, guys. You cant be making noise or showing a light at night, either. So you need some sort of night vision, a silencer and at least soft armor. the biggest threat will come from guys with silenced 22's, they'll still have some ammo and you wont hear a silenced, subsonic 22, bolt held shut, from 50 FEET away. It's still lethal at 125 m. too. Take such a hit and you'll be a walking dead man, because of the infection. You'll go down in less than a day from the fever and you'll never get up again.

    Fair warning to potential American "Guerilla" soldiers. 1st and foremost, regardless of what you wear, you can't beat the technology that the military and US government possess. Second you can never be 100% sure that the citizen you pass on the street won't immediately double tap you in the face and then call the authorities. Some of us want nothing but the right and ability to move through our day to day lives without the fear of so called "patriots" disrupting our lives. In other words, it's not just the government, military and law enforcement you'll have to contend with. You'll also be facing a whole lot of citizens with zero tolerance for your BS. And guess what? We won't be decked out for war! We will be the ones just going about our daily lives and you'll have no clue who we are until it's too late.

    Opinions are like bungholes… everybody has one. I live in a sparsely populated area (2 people per square mile) of the Northern Rockies. My arsenal is 30-06 heavy… M1 Garands and 1903/A3. Lots of ammunition and spare parts. Also plenty of .22 and .22WMR firearms and ammunition in abundance. Several 12 gauge riot-type guns with deep stock of various game loads and 00 buck. A few Mini14’s and one AR type in .223/5.56. A couple M96 Swedish Mausers. Two M1A clones built from Polytech receivers by Fulton Armory. One long range rifle… Savage 22-250 with Nightforce optics. My philosophy is stick to commonality and ease of maintenance.

    5.56 is a great round for beginners and small, lightweight people(most, but not all, women). A real rifle is a .308. Need to carry less ammo and fewer mags. One hit, one stop. Several lightweight .308 variants out there. Both SCAR 17 and POF Revolution/ Rogue have both lightweight and low recoil. .308 is relatively cheap, especially since lower round counts to be purchased. Can do anything from cqb to 800 yard shots. Not so much for rabbits! That is what the backup .22 or .38 pistol in your pocket is for!

  • @TheRobman139
    @TheRobman139 10 днів тому

    A well thought out video; logical, rational, sensible. I don’t entirely agree, however. My own perspective is not that of a prepper enthusiast, but rather, a 63-year-old peacetime US Army infantry vet from the 1980s who’s been shooting since the age of seven. If you are talking about the best choice for a SHTF rifle for the “average person”, my recommendation would be a good AK pattern rifle, standard 16” barrel length, in 7.62x39mm. I personally have both an AR and an AK, but if I have to participate in the defense of my subdivision, I’m reaching for the AK first, and I submit that for most people who want to have something to address that scenario, the AK is the best choice. Two main reasons for this: - Most people live in suburban or urban environments. Chances are pretty high that in those areas, no one is going to be engaging past 200 yards. Within that range, the 7.62x39mm is a better fighting cartridge in terms of penetration, knock down power, prompt lethality. Now, you go to significantly greater distances, 300 yards, 400 yards, the 5.56 NATO is more efficient and holds up better in terms of energy and trajectory, especially out of a 20” barrel, but the vast majority of people are never going to be shooting that far so it doesn’t matter in real world terms. For the engagement envelope most people would face, 7.62x39mm is a punchier, deadlier round. - Then there’s ease of maintenance. This is especially important for people who don’t have that much experience with firearms, who are new to the idea of having a defensive carbine. ARs are fun to shoot and easy to shoot accurately, which are obviously advantages, but they are more demanding of maintenance and don’t take kindly to neglect. Field stripping, cleaning, and putting back together an AK will be a lot less intimidating to a relatively new shooter, and if he or she goes a while without cleaning it, no big deal. I would add that even in the environment you are in, there in the hill country of Washington state, you might be better served by an AK. I can see you’ve got a lot of brush, twigs, etc. to deal with out there, which has been known to distract the flight path of light high velocity 5.56 projectiles on the way to their targets. 7.62x39mm just punches through that stuff. Both Paul Harrell - who is more of an AR guy - and that Rob Ski fellow at AKOU have done videos demonstrating this fact. I’m not saying the AK has it all over the AR; the AR definitely has advantages of its own. But for the average person in most places in the US, if they are new to military-style semiautomatic rifles and are getting their first one, I would say the AK is a better way to go.

    • @robertgoodrich8953
      @robertgoodrich8953 5 днів тому

      Fortunately most people with rifles are not newbies and can easily shoot and clean an AR. I would submit that a .308 is a better choice than an AK. More of the same advantages but doesn’t veer off course after 200 yards. You might be surprised how often a longer shot pops up, or the need to be within a few MOA at shorter distance. The Ukraine War has eliminated most of the cheap Russian ammo that made AK’s so desirable. And I just have a problem with using the weapons of my enemy. To each their own, though. All 3 of these weapons, in the right hands , with the right ammo, can be very effective.
